The third game of the three-match ODI series between India U19 and Australia U19 saw the fourth-highest match aggregate score being registered in the history of youth ODIs. It took place in Puducherry on Thursday, September 26.

The combined match tally of 641 runs has now surpassed the previous highest match aggregate score in the youth ODIs between the two nations. The previous record was set way back on March 23, 1994, when 588 runs were scored in Vadodara.

While the Australian Colts scored 317-8 batting first in that game, the India U19 fell short of the target by 46 runs having finished at 271-9 in 50 overs. Michael Hussey top-scored for the visitors with an 81-run knock. Meanwhile, Sanjay Raul hit the maximum runs for India 19, registering an unbeaten innings of 81*.

The current record for the highest match aggregate score in the youth ODIs is held by the Australia U19 and the West Indies U19. The game between them, which happened in 2011 in Visakhapatnam, witnessed a whopping 714 runs.

Meanwhile, in Puducherry, the Australian U19 skipper Oliver Peake won the toss and opted to field first in the final encounter of the ODI series. Put into bat, the hosts lost their opener Sahil Parakh in the seventh over with the scoreboard reading 34-1. Powered by the half-centuries from Rudra Patel (77) and captain Mohamed Amaan (71), the Boys in Blue put up a total of 324-8 in their 50 overs.

While Patel smashed eight fours and three sixes, the captain's knock comprised six fours and a six. Wicketkeeper batter Harvansh Pangalia also contributed 46 runs off 47 balls.

Chasing 325 runs to avoid a 3-0 series whitewash, the Oliver Peake-led side came very close to achieving the target. The captain himself and Steve Higan each scored centuries. Unfortunately, they managed 317-7, losing the contest by a margin of seven runs.

Earlier, India U19 won the first two games of the ODI series by seven wickets and nine wickets respectively in Puducherry. Next up, the two teams will be facing off in the two unofficial Test matches which are scheduled to be played at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
