India A announce squad for Men's T20 Emerging Asia Cup 2024

A 15-member India A squad has been announced for the upcoming Men's T20 Emerging Asia Cup 2024 which is all set to be held in Oman from October 18. 21-year-old southpaw Tilak Varma will lead the bunch of talented Indian players.

The sixth edition of the tournament will feature eight teams divided into two groups of four. Overall, 15 matches will be played this year, with the final scheduled for October 27. All the games will be played at Muscat's Oman Cricket Academy Ground.

The Tilak Varma-led side has been placed in Group B alongside hosts Oman, defending champions Pakistan A, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Meanwhile, two-time winners Sri Lanka A are in Group A which also comprises Hong Kong, Afghanistan A, and Bangladesh A.

Tilak Varma (c), Abhishek Sharma, Anuj Rawat, Prabhsimran Singh, Ayush Badoni, Nishant Sindhu, Nehal Wadhera, Ramandeep Singh, Aaqib Khan, Anshul Kamboj, Vaibhav Arora, Hrithik Shokeen, R Sai Kishore, Rahul Chahar, Rasikh Salam.

India A won the inaugural Men's T20 Emerging Asia Cup in 2013

This year's Men's Emerging Asia Cup will be the first-ever instance of the tournament being held in the 20-over format. The previous five editions were played in the 50-over format.

Pakistan A clinched the title in 2023, defeating arch-rivals India A in the final at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Put into bat, Pakistan A posted a massive total of 352-8 on the board and managed to bowl out Yash Dhull's men for 224 runs in 40 overs, thereby winning the contest by a margin of 128 runs.

It was their second Men's Emerging Asia Cup crown, having won the 2019 edition in Bangladesh. India A's slow left-arm orthodox bowler Nishant Sindhu, who picked up 11 wickets was adjudged Player of the Tournament for his exploits with the ball. While India A won the inaugural edition in 2013, Sri Lanka A won the titles in 2017 and 2018.
