IND vs NZ: India and New Zealand's last match scorecard in Women's T20 World Cup 2024

Harmanpreet Kaur-led India will take on Sophie Devine’s New Zealand in their opening game of the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday, October 4. The two teams have locked horns four times in the ICC event, with the Women in Blue and the White Ferns winning two games each. India lost to New Zealand in the 2009 and 2010 T20 World Cups before returning to winning ways in the 2018 and 2020 editions of the T20 event.

Harmanpreet Kaur and company beat the Kiwis by three runs in a thriller in their last meeting at the 2020 T20 World Cup in Melbourne.

Batting first, India posted 133/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Shafali Verma starred with the bat, scoring 46 runs off 34 balls with the help of three sixes and four boundaries. Taniya Bhatia also chipped in with 23 off 25, hitting three boundaries. Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Shikha Pandey, and Radhav Yadav were the other batters who reached double digits.

Amelia Kerr and Rosemary Mair emerged as the leading wicket-takers for New Zealand, picking up two wickets each. Lea Tahuhu, Sophie Devine, and Leigh Kasperek also bagged one wicket apiece.

In response, the White Ferns managed 130/6 in 20 overs. Kerr top scored with 34 not out of 19 deliveries, comprising six boundaries. Katey Martin and Maddy Green also chipped in with scores of 25 (28), and 24 (23), respectively. The trio, however, failed to take the team over the line.

Deepti Sharma, Shikha Pandey, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Poonam Yadav, and Radha Yadav shared one wicket each for the Women in Blue.

India's scorecard from their last T20 World Cup match

India lost to eventual champions Australia by five runs in their last T20 World Cup match in 2023.

Batting first, the Aussies posted 172/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Beth Mooney and skipper Meg Lanning starred with the bat, scoring 54 (37) and 49 (34), respectively. Ashleigh Gardner and Alyssa Healy also chipped in with scores of 31 (18) and 25 (26), respectively. Shikha Pandey bagged two wickets for India, while Deepti Sharma and Radha Yadav settled for one apiece.

In response, India managed 167/8 in 20 overs. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur led from the front, scoring 52 off 34 deliveries, hitting one maximum and six boundaries. Jemimah Rodrigues also chipped in with 43 off 24, comprising six boundaries. The duo, however, failed to take the Women in Blue past the finish line. Ashleigh Gardner and Darcie Brown picked up two wickets each for Australia, while Megan Schutt and Jess Jonassen scalped one apiece.

New Zealand’s scorecard from their last T20 World Cup match

New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by 102 runs in their last T20 World Cup game in 2023.

Batting first, New Zealand Women put up 162/3 in 20 overs. Amelia Kerr top-scored with 66 runs off 48 deliveries, comprising six boundaries. Suzie Bates and Bernadine Bezuidenhout also chipped in with 56 (49) and 32 (20), respectively. Achini Kulasuriya and Inoka Ranaweera bagged one wicket each for the White Ferns.

In response, the Islanders were bundled out for 60. Skipper Chamari Athapaththu and Maisha Shehani were the two batters to reach digits. Amelia Kerr and Lea Tahuhu were the pick of the bowlers, returning with two wickets apiece, while Eden Carson, Jess Kerr, Hannah Rowe, and Fran Jonas bagged one wicket each.

India reached the semifinals of the last edition of the Women's T20 World Cup in 2023, while New Zealand failed to reach the top four.
