Former England great, Sir Geoffrey Boycott, was in attendance at the recent birthday celebration of Sunil Gavaskar. The Indian legend celebrated his 75th birthday on July 10, which saw many fans and cricketers extending their wishes.
According to reports, Gavaskar's son Rohan threw a party in a London restaurant for the occasion and Boycott was among the guests. He shared a picture on X, writing:
“Super evening at Indian legend’s birthday party. Sunil Gavaskar 75th Happy Birthday.”
On November 14, 1983, Gavaskar overtook Boycott's record for the most runs in Test cricket. The legendary English opener amassed 8,114 runs at an average of 47.7 in 108 Test matches, with 22 hundreds.
Gavaskar went on to become the first batter in Test cricket to amass 10,000 runs in 1987. By the time his majestic 125-match career had ended, he had scored 10,122 runs at an average of 51.1 and hit 34 centuries.
Boycott also shared a picture with Sachin Tendulkar and captioned it:
"Indian icon - Sachin one of the four greatest batsmen I have ever seen."
After playing for the country in 200 Tests and amassing 15,921 runs at an average of 53.7, including 51 hundreds, Tendulkar announced his retirement in 2013.
“I am still on a high”: Sunil Gavaskar lauds Team India for winning T20 World Cup
Team India defeated South Africa by seven runs on June 29 to win their second T20 World Cup. In an interview with the Hindustan Times, Sunil Gavaskar expressed gratitude to Rohit Sharma and his team for his early birthday present.
"Oh, I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday gift than what Rohit Sharma and his boys gave me. I am still on a high," Gavaskar said.
The former opener was a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning Indian team. Kapil Dev and his men defeated the West Indies in the final to bring glory to the nation.
