Sri Lanka strengthened their grip over the third position in the ICC World Test Championship points table with an emphatic win against New Zealand. The islanders crushed the Kiwis by an innings and 154 runs in the second Test of the two-match series to complete a 2-0 clean sweep.

Thanks to this victory, Sri Lanka now have 55.56% percentage of points won to their name. They have inched closer to the top two of the ICC World Test Championship points table. India continue to be at the top of the table with 71.67%, while the second-placed Australia have 62.5% points percentage.

New Zealand dropped down from fourth to seventh position after the innings defeat against Sri Lanka. Courtesy of the massive loss, the Kiwis' points percentage has dropped down from 42.86% to 37.5%, allowing England, Bangladesh and South Africa to gain one position each.

Pakistan and West Indies continue to be the bottom two teams in the standings. West Indies have the lowest points percentage (18.52%) among all nine teams in the WTC.

Bangladesh may slip to 6th position in ICC World Test Championship points table soon

The second match of the ongoing Test series between India and Bangladesh is currently underway in Kanpur. Unfortunately, rain has played spoilsport in three days of action so far as only 35 overs have been bowled in the contest.

With only two more days left, it is likely that the India vs Bangladesh Test will end in a draw. In that case, Bangladesh will slip from fifth to sixth position because their points percentage will decline from 39.29% to 38.54%. South Africa will move to fifth position with 38.89% points percentage.

On the other side, India's points percentage will also decline from 71.67% to 68.18% if the match ends in a draw. Still, they will retain the first position.
