ICC World Test Championship points table (Updated) as of October 20 after IND vs NZ 2024 1st Test

New Zealand stunned India by eight wickets in the first Test at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday, October 20, being played as part of the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC). Needing 107 for a famous win, the Kiwis got home in 27.4 overs on Day 5 as Will Young (48*) and Rachin Ravindra (39*) guided the chase.

New Zealand's win over on Sunday in Bengaluru was their first Test triumph in India since November 1988, when a John Wright-led side beat India at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai by 136 runs. Overall, this was only the Kiwis' third Test win in India.

Looking at the World Test Championship points table after the Bengaluru Test, India remain in first position despite the defeat. They have played 12 matches, winning eight and losing three, with one game ending in a draw. Rohit Sharma and company have accumulated 98 points, with a points percentage (PCT) of 68.06.

As for New Zealand, they are in fourth place in the WTC points table, with 48 points and a PCT of 44.44. The Kiwis have played nine matches in the ongoing cycle, winning four and losing five.

Australia remain second in the 2023-25 World Test Championship points table, with 90 points and a PCT of 62.50. Sri Lanka complete the top three, with 60 points and a PCT of 55.56. England are fifth in the WTC points table, followed by South Africa, Bangladesh, Pakistan and West Indies.


New Zealand dominated the World Test Championship match against India in Bengaluru

India won the toss and decided to bat first under tricky conditions in Bengaluru after the opening day had been washed out due to rain. The hosts were bundled out for a mere 46, their lowest Test total at home. New Zealand responded with 402 as Rachin Ravindra scored a magnificent 134.

India fought hard in their second innings to put up 462 as Sarfaraz Khan scored 150 and Rishabh Pant 99. They, however, collapsed from 408-3 to 462 all out to set the Kiwis a target of 107. Among New Zealand's bowlers, Matt Henry picked up eight wickets in the Test match, while Will O'Rourke claimed seven.

The second Test of the India vs New Zealand series will be played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune from October 24 to October 28. The series will conclude with the third Test at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai from November 1 to November 5.
