South Africa have climbed up to the fifth position on the 2023-25 ICC World Test Championship points table after a 40-run win against the West Indies. The Proteas defended a 263-run target in Guyana to secure 12 points in the WTC standings.

The win helped South Africa secure the two-Test series against the West Indies by 1-0. The Proteas now have 38.89% points to their name. They have moved up from seventh to fifth position in the ICC World Test Championship points table.

On the other hand, the West Indies continue to languish at the bottom of the standings in the ninth position. Their points percentage has slipped from 20.83% to 18.52% after the recent defeat. The home team needed 263 runs to win but lost all their wickets for 222 runs.

Keshav Maharaj scalped three wickets in the fourth innings of the match. Overall, Maharaj took 13 wickets in the series and won the Man of the Series award for his brilliant bowling performances.

India continue in the first position, followed by Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Pakistan, England, Bangladesh, and West Indies.

Pakistan can return to 5th position on ICC World Test Championship points table soon

South Africa overtook Pakistan and England in the points table after the series win against the West Indies. However, Shan Masood's men can return to the fifth spot soon as their home series against Bangladesh starts on Wednesday, August 21, in Rawalpindi.

It will be a two-match Test series between Pakistan and Bangladesh, with the second Test scheduled to begin in Karachi on August 30. If Pakistan win the first Test, they will return to the fifth position, while a 2-0 series win can propel them to the third position with 54.76% points.

A three-Test series between England and Sri Lanka also begins on Wednesday. Home team England will be without captain Ben Stokes. It will be interesting to see if the fourth-placed Sri Lankan team can inch closer to the Top 2 by performing well in English conditions.
