Scotland defeated Namibia by 138 runs in the 18th match of ICC CWC League 2 on Friday, July 26, at Forthill in Dundee. Michael English and Richie Berrington helped Scotland post a total of 301 runs for the loss of six wickets.
Scotland have jumped to first place from third with four wins in seven matches and have a net run rate (NRR) of +1.503. Canada have slipped to the second position from first and have won all their four games, while possessing a NRR +0.498.
Namibia have moved to third place from second and have won and lost four matches each and have a NRR of -0.366. The Netherlands are still in fourth position and have registered two wins in four outings and have a NRR of -0.158.
Oman are still in fifth place and have won one out of four matches, while boasting a NRR of -1.066. Nepal are still in sixth position and have won one out of four games with a NRR of -0.118.
The United Arab Emirates are still in seventh place and have lost all their three matches, while having an NRR of -1.072.
Scotland's Michael English hits century on debut, secures victory over Namibia
Namibia won the toss and elected to bowl against Scotland. Scotland lost their first two wickets for just 61 runs. Michael English and Richie Berrington added 170 runs for the third wicket and took the team’s total over 200 runs.
English scored 107 runs off 122 deliveries, while Berrington made 89 runs off 81 deliveries. They helped Scotland reach a total of 301 runs for the loss of six wickets. English became the first batter to score a century on ODI debut for Scotland. Shaun Fouché was the pick of the bowlers for Namibia and took three wickets for 60 runs in 10 overs.
Namibia lost their first three wickets for just nine runs and it pushed them to the backfoot. Gerhard Erasmus did score a half-century but no other batter could make a major contribution. As a result, Namibia were bundled out for just 163 runs in 40.1 overs and lost the match by 138 runs.
Bradley Currie and Gavin Main took three wickets each, while Michael Leask and Brandon McMullen picked two wickets each for Scotland. English won the Player of the Match award.
