The ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 returned to Rotterdam’s Hazelaarweg after a two-day hiatus on Monday, August 19, with the United States crossing paths with Canada in match number 23.

With the United States winning by 50 runs, they climbed up to fifth in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 points table with two wins from three matches. The Netherlands continue to remain at the top of the table with 10 points, courtesy of five wins from seven games.

Scotland, with nine points from seven fixtures, are second in the eight-team standings and are followed by Canada, who remain third after their defeat to the USA.

Namibia are fourth with eight points and an NRR of -0.139. Oman and Nepal are sixth and seventh respectively, after the USA, with a win each. Winless UAE continue to languish at the bottom of the standings with a dismal NRR of -1.072.


Smit Patel and Schalkwyk star in big United States win

Batting first, the United States tallied 275-8 in 50 overs, courtesy of valuable contributions from their top five batters. Opener Steven Taylor belted 46 and shared an 125-run partnership with half-centurion Smit Patel (70 off 84). Aaron Jones, batting at No. 4, flogged three boundaries and a six in his 50 off 53.

Milind Kumar led USA’s slog-overs fury by belting five boundaries in his 30-ball 47-run knock. Among Canada bowlers, Saad Bin Zafar picked up three key wickets, registering 3-30 in 10 overs.

In response, Canada lost both their openers to Nosthush Kenjige and Jasdeep Singh inside the first eight overs of their chase. Captain Nicholas Kirton and Harsh Thaker fell in quick succession to Shadley van Schalkwyk as Canada slipped to 44-4 in a chase of 276.

Pargat Singh led Canada’s recovery by making 72 at No. 3 and shared a 108-run partnership with fellow half-centurion Shreyas Movva (68). However, Canada eventually folded up for 225. Schalkwyk mopped up the tail with figures of 4-20 in eight overs.
