The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 continued on July 18 with match 14 played out between Namibia and Oman at Dundee’s Forthill. Being put into bat first, Oman lost both openers cheaply within the first three overs to Namibia’s Junior Kariata and Ben Shikongo.

Captain Aqib Ilyas fought back for Oman with a 90-run partnership with number four Zeeshan Maqsood to take his team past the 100-run mark. After Aqib was trapped in front by Bernard Scholtz at 101/3, Maqsood and Khalid Kail listed valiant half-centuries. Shoaib Khan then slogged his way to an 18-ball 30 at the death. Overcoming Ben Shikongo’s four-wicket haul, Oman listed a competitive 233/8 at the end of their 50 overs.

Chasing 234, Namibia openers Michael van Lingen (30 off 41 balls) and Lo-handre Louwrens (29 off 65 balls) made identical contributions at the top. No. 3 batter Jan Fryinck then took over to make a rapid 73.

Captain Gerhard Erasmus and half-centurion Frylinck fell quickly courtesy of Bilal Khan. Unbeaten JJ Smit and JP Kotze then steered Namibia to a six-wicket win in the 48th over of the match.
