The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced Kamindu Mendis and Tammy Beaumont as the winners of the Player of the Month trophy for the month of September 2024 on Monday (October 14). The Player of the Month trophy is handed out to the best player in international cricket held across the month.

Kamindu Mendis was awarded the Men's Player of the Month for his stellar showings in September 2024. Across the five matches played, Kamindu scored 451 runs at an average of 90.20. He scored a dominant knock of 182* against New Zealand at home and during this time, he also leveled legendary batter Don Bradman to become the quickest batter in 75 years to get to 1000 Test runs.

Mendis beat the likes of Australia's Travis Head and his own countryman, Prabath Jayasuriya to win the award. On being bestowed the honor for a second time, Mendis had the following to say (as per ICC):

"I am honoured to be once again chosen as the ICC Men’s Player of the Month, and this accolade brings me immense happiness and pride, as I believe all the hard work that was put into becoming the player that I am today is starting to pay off and being recognised consistently in the global stage."

Furthermore, he added:

"This recognition gives me further strength to continue my good work on the cricketing field and aspire for bigger achievements, thus helping my team win games and bring glory to our country and happiness to our fans."

Tammy Beaumont wins the award of the Female Player of the Month for September 2024

England's Tammy Beaumont was awarded the Female Player of the Month for September 2024. She won this honor on the back of her important performances against Ireland Women, which helped England beat Ireland 2-1 in the three-match ODI series.

The England Women opener had the following to say on winning the honor:

"Thank you to everyone who voted for me as ICC Women's Player of the Month for September. It was a great tour in Ireland with an inexperienced England team and it was really nice to contribute personally."

On beating UAE's Esha Oza and Ireland's Amiee Maguire to win the honor, she said:

"I saw firsthand how well Aimee Maguire bowled for Ireland and she fully deserved the nomination. Congratulations to Esha Oza too."

Tammy Beaumont scored 212 runs at an average of 106 in the ODI series, with a match-winning 150* in the second game of their tour.
