All-rounder Liam Livingstone has penned an emotional note for his late grandfather after the conclusion of England's campaign in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Livingstone also wore a black armband during the semi-final against India in Guyana on Thursday (June 27) in respect of the passing of his grandfather.

The defending champions, England, suffered a dismal 68-run loss in the semis against India to crash out of the tournament. After the match, Liam Livingstone took to his official Instagram handle and dedicated an emotional post to his grandfather. He wrote:

"Yesterday was an incredibly tough day, but I know one person was looking down on me with immense pride! My first ever hero, my biggest supporter, my grandad! So incredibly lucky to have been blessed with the most amazing grandad and he will leave an incredibly big hole in our family."

He continued:

"Right until the end he battled his illness with the determination and courage we are all so proud of him for. But now he can finally rest in peace ❤️❤️ grandad I’m going to miss you an immense amount, but I feel so grateful I’ve been given 30 years of my life to make the most amazing memories with you 💔 I’m going to miss you every single day!"

Liam Livingstone had a disappointing run for England in the 2024 T20 World Cup

Liam Livingstone was the designated finisher for England in the 2024 T20 World Cup. He failed to do the job for his team, as he could score only 72 runs across eight games. He also scalped three wickets when the captain summoned him to bowl.

It was a mixed campaign for England in the 2024 T20 World Cup as they scraped hard in the group stage and edged Scotland marginally to reach the Super 8 phase. The Jos Buttler-led side then lost against South Africa but beat the USA and West Indies convincingly to reach the semis. However, they were overpowered by a dominant Indian team in the semi-final on a sluggish pitch.
