Bangladeshi fan 'Tiger Roby' has issued a clarification of a video of him that went viral on Day 1 of the second India vs Bangladesh Test at Green Park in Kanpur on Friday, September 27. While several social media users alleged that he was beaten up, the fan claimed he had fallen ill at the stadium and was thus brought to the hospital by cops.

Only 35 overs were bowled on Day 1 of the Kanpur Test as rain and poor weather played spoilsport. India won the toss and bowled first. Bangladesh went to stumps on 107-3, with Mominul Haque unbeaten on 40.

During the match, a video went viral in which the Bangladesh cricket fan was seen distressed. Soon, allegations of him being beaten up started flowing thick and fast on social media. However, issuing a clarification over the incident, the fan was quoted as telling PTI:

'I fell ill and the police brought me to the hospital. Now I am feeling much better. My name is Roby and I have come from Bangladesh."

The news agency also quoted Abhishek Pandey, ACP (Kalyanpur), saying 'Tiger Roby' was provided with immediate medical treatment and confirmed that he had not been assaulted by anyone. Some previous reports claimed that 'Tiger Roby' was allegedly hit on the lower abdomen by some spectators in the stadium.

PTI also quoted a Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association official saying that when the Bangladesh fan came out of the stands, he was wincing in pain and seemed to be fainting. He claimed that 'Tiger Roby' was even given a chair to sit on but fell.

"We do not know if he was hit by somebody. We have a constable in that stand to keep an eye on the fans. We could not understand what he was saying. Probably he had pain," the official explained.

The official also clarified that since the ambulance was taking some time to arrive, the in-stadia medical team took him to a nearby facility.
