"He's going to have to pay for that" - Joshua Da Silva's sarcastic remark on Shamar Joseph breaking roof tiles on Day 3 of ENG vs WI 2nd Test

West Indies keeper-batter Joshua Da Silva jokingly insisted that Shamar Joseph will have to pay for the damaged roof of the Trent Bridge Stadium. The right-handed batter's comment came after Day 3 of the second Test against England when the youngster struck a massive six towards the square leg.

The incident occurred in the 107th over of the innings as Joseph took Gus Atkinson to the cleaners. He started the over with a six and latched on to a short-pitched delivery two balls later as it hit the stadium roof, causing the tiles to fall on the spectators, who escaped injuries.

Speaking at a post-day press conference, Da Silva hailed the 24-year-old for playing some terrific shots and seemed quite confident for a No.11.

"He was pretty confident but I still had to shield him because he's still No. 11. He backs himself with the bat, he played some terrific shots, he broke a couple of tiles, which was good to see. But at the end of the day, it was my job to try and get the team as far as we can."

Da Silva, who stayed unbeaten at 82, slightly rued out on missing out on a century, claiming:

"I think he played some tremendous shots. We got a 70-run partnership, 40-run lead. So that was really good to see. It wasn't meant to be for the hundred today. Obviously I would've loved it, but I wasn't meant to be."

The pair joined hands at 386-9 as the West Indies were still 30 runs behind England's score. However, they added 71 runs and powered the tourists to a handy 41-run lead eventually.

Nevertheless, the West Indies couldn't tighten the screws with the ball despite dismissing Zak Crawley again cheaply. Joseph, who had figures of 11.3-1-44-1 in the first innings, has a haul of 10-0-36-0 so far in the second. Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope scored briskly yet again, adding 119 before the latter perished for 51. Alzarri Joseph also got rid of Duckett almost immediately for 76.

The home side still edged ahead as Harry Brook and Joe Root played some risk-free shots to swell their lead to 207 by the close. Brook stayed unbeaten on 71, with their partnership unbroken on 108.
