On Monday, August 5, the Surrey Jaguars and Bangla Tigers Mississauga locked horns in the 18th match of the Global T20 Canada (GT20) 2024. Later in the day, the Toronto Nationals and Montreal Tigers squared off against each other.

Montreal Tigers defeated Toronto Nationals and moved from second position to first with four wins and nine points in their account. Meanwhile, Brampton Wolves, who have secured four wins and two losses, slipped to second position with a net run rate of 0.771.

Bangla Tigers Mississauga registered their fourth victory over Surrey and bagged the third spot with a negative NRR of -0.496. Surrey Jaguars and Vancouver Knights had a disappointing season. The Jaguars have lost four out of six matches while the Knights finished at the bottom of the table with just one win in seven games.

The top four teams have been qualified for the playoff stage while the rest have been eliminated.

In a rain-affected match, Surrey Jaguars had set a 109-run target for the loss of eight wickets in 18 overs. Shreyas Movva was the top-scorer with 21 while Virandeep Singh (17), Sunil Narine (16), Mohammad Nabi (13), and Hamza Tariq (10) made handy contributions.

Curtis Campher led the assault for Bangla Tigers, chipping in with four wickets for 17 runs in his three-over spell while the rest of the lineup took one each.

In reply, Bangla Tigers chased the target with two wickets in hand and three balls to spare. Skipper Shakib Al Hasan was the top run-getter, scoring 36 off 30, while Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Muhammad Waseem added 19 and 16, respectively.

Ben Lister secured three wickets for the Jaguars while Logan van Beek and Sunil Narine picked up two each and Marcus Stoinis one.

In the following game, Montreal Tigers bowled Toronto Nationals out for 52 in just 11.1 overs. Jatinderpal Matharu top-scored with 12 while the remaining batters were dismissed in single digits. Kaleem Sana was the wrecker-in-chief with a four-wicket haul, backed by Azmatullah Omarzai’s three, Corbin Bosch’s two, and Aayan Khan’s one.

In response, Dilpreet Bajwa and Tim Seifert's important contributions helped the Tigers win comfortably in 11.3 overs. Jason Behrendorff, Junaid Siddique, and Matharu claimed one wicket each for Toronto.
