Texas Super Kings (TSK) pacer Gerald Coetzee has been ruled out of the remainder of the 2024 Major League Cricket (MLC) season with a left-side strain injury. The speedster suffered the injury in their opener against the Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR).

Yet, Coetzee completed his quota of four overs with impressive figures of 1/28. and scored four with the bat. The franchise hasn't named a replacement for the South African pacer with Dwayne Bravo taking his spot in the 11 in their second game against the Washington Freedom. However, that encounter was washed out due to rain.

The 23-year-old has been picked for South Africa's upcoming Test series in the West Indies, starting August 7. Coetzee was part of the TSK squad in the inaugural MLC season last year, picking up eight wickets at an impressive average of 15.75 in five outings.

Yet, his exploits weren't enough as the side suffered defeat in Qualifier Two and missed the grand finale.

Meanwhile, TSK will play their next match of the ongoing MLC season against the San Francisco Unicorns at Morrisville on Wednesday, July 10.

Gerald Coetzee was part of South Africa's squad in the 2024 T20 World Cup final run

Gerald Coetzee was part of South Africa's 15-member squad that made history during the recently concluded 2024 T20 World Cup. The Proteas advanced to a World Cup final for the first time in their team history.

However, the 23-year-old was relegated to warming the benches as he did not feature in the playing XI for even a single outing. The pace attack comprised mostly Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, and Anrich Nortje, with Ottneil Baartman playing the initial few games.

Nevertheless, Coetzee has impressed across formats in his playing time with South Africa. He averages in the mid-20s in all three formats with 49 total wickets in 23 matches.

Coetzee played a massive role in South Africa's semi-final run in the 2023 ODI World Cup, picking up an incredible 20 wickets in eight games.
