The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has announced the first edition of the Delhi Premier League 2024, to be held from August 17 to September 8, 2024. Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi will be the venue for 33 men’s and seven women’s games.
The league features six teams, each representing a different zone within the union territory of Delhi: South Delhi Superstarz (South Delhi), East Delhi Riders (East Delhi), Central Delhi Kings (Central Delhi), North Delhi Strikers (North Delhi), West Delhi Lions (West Delhi), and Purani Dilli (Old Delhi).
South Delhi Superstarz, representing South Delhi Zone, were acquired by Real Force Resources Pvt Ltd for INR 8.95 crore.
The inaugural tournament features a diverse pool of 270 players hailing from across Delhi, representing a mix of national, U-23, and U-19 talent. The players are strategically categorized into four distinct groups:
Category A comprises IPL stars and players with international cricketing experience while Category B, who are currently part of the senior Delhi cricket team, fall under this category. Category C includes emerging talents from Delhi's U-19 and U-23 teams while Category D features top performers from Delhi’s club leagues are also recognized and placed in this group.
Moving into the details of the South Delhi squad, Tejasvi Dahiya and Dhruv Singh are the two wicket-keeper options while Lucknow Super Giants star all-rounder, Ayush Badoni was the first pick from the draft for South Delhi Superstarz.
The Superstars have acquired the services of Priyansh Arya, who was the top run-scorer for Delhi in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023. He will be backed by talented domestic batters including Saurabh Deswal and Sarthak Ray.
The team features a good number of quality all-rounders who will add depth to both the batting and bowling lineup. The local players include Sumit Mathur, Divij Mehra, Kunwan Bidhuri, Tarun Bisht, Vision Panchal, Mayank Gupta, Anindo Naharay, and Deepanshu Gulia.
The pace attack will be headed by Kuldip Yadav, who played for Rajasthan Royals in the 2023 IPL. Raghav Singh, Shubham Dubey, and Anshuman Hooda are some of the quality pacers in their lineup while the spinners include Digvesh Rathi and Lakshay Sehrawat.
