The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has announced the inaugural edition of the Delhi Premier League 2024, set to take place from August 17 to September 8, 2024. The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi will host 33 men's and seven women's matches.
The league features six franchise teams, each representing different zones of Delhi: Purani Delhi-6 (Old Delhi), East Delhi Riders (East Delhi), West Delhi Lions (West Delhi), North Delhi Strikers (North Delhi), Central Delhi Kings (Central Delhi), and South Delhi Superstarz (South Delhi).
Purani Delhi-6, which represents the Old Delhi Zone, is owned by the SISL Infotech Pvt. Ltd. for Rs. for 8 crore.
The inaugural tournament includes 270 players from across Delhi, categorized into four groups: national players, U-23, U-19, and top performers from various domestic clubs.
The explosive wicketkeeper-batter, Rishab Pant is expected to captain Purani Delhi-6, with the inclusion of star players like Ishant Sharma and Lalit Yadav, who have played for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL. Ishant is likely to lead the pace-bowling attack while Lalit will add stability to the batting lineup and variety with his off-spin.
Batting all-rounder Shivam Sharma, who has represented Delhi Under-19s and Punjab Kings, is also included in Purani Delhi’s squad. Meanwhile, the right-arm fast bowler Prince Yadav will assist Ishant in the fast bowling department.
