Veteran all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. Although he was plying his trade with the Trinibago Knight Riders in the ongoing 2024 Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Bravo suffered a groin injury during his side's league fixture against the Saint Lucia Kings on Tuesday, September 24, at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad.

While the Trinidadian had already announced that the 2024 CPL would be his last stint in the league, the groin injury prematurely concluded his campaign. The 40-year-old took to Instagram on Thursday, September 26, to announce his retirement.

Dwayne Bravo retires as the highest wicket-taker in the history of T20s

Dwayne Bravo, who will be turning 41 on October 7, retired from International Cricket after playing his last game for the West Indies against Australia during the T20 World Cup in Abu Dhabi on November 6, 2021. While his final Test appearance came way back in December 2010 against Sri Lanka in Pallekele, his last ODI game was against India in Dharamsala in October 2014.

In the 91 T20Is he featured for the West Indies, Bravo scored 1,255 runs and took 78 wickets. He played a major role in their 2012 and 2016 ICC Men's T20 World Cup-winning campaigns thanks to his all-round exploits. In the IPL, the flamboyant player began his journey representing the Mumbai Indians and then went on to feature for the Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Lions.

He won three IPL titles during his stints with the Super Kings - in 2011, 2018 and 2021. Coincidentally, his last IPL match was for the Chennai Super Kings against their arch-rivals and his former side Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on May 12, 2022.

Overall, with a whopping 631 wickets, Dwayne Bravo retires as the all-time highest wicket-taker in the history of T20s. He is also second on the list for the most T20 appearances having played 582 matches - only behind compatriot Kieron Pollard who has featured in 684 games so far.
