The shakeup in the decision-making leadership at the Delhi Capitals (DC) has reportedly pushed former director and mentor Sourav Ganguly away from the men's IPL side completely. Ganguly is set to take up the role of Director of Cricket at JSW Sports, which is the company that co-owns the Capitals franchise.

The role would be separate from Hemang Badani and Venugopal Rao who were named as the head coach (IPL) and Director of Cricket (IPL), respectively, on Thursday. The official press release said Ganguly will 'spearhead all cricketing properties owned by JSW Sports,' including the men's IPL team.

However, as per The Times of India, in effect, Ganguly will now mostly oversee the Capitals' Women's Premier League and SA20 (Pretoria Capitals) teams.

"Sourav Ganguly will no longer be participating in working and functioning of the Delhi Capitals in the IPL. You can say he will be the Women's Director of Cricket and will mostly be overseeing the Women's Premier League team and the Pretoria Capitals in SA20," ToI cited a source as saying.

The Delhi Capitals franchise, which also includes the WPL and SA20 teams, is co-owned by the JSW group and the GMR group. In an interesting arrangement revealed on Thursday, GMR is now set to take over the IPL ownership and decision-making for the next two years, before a switch back to JSW in 2027.

As JSW will continue to run the women's Delhi Capitals and the Pretoria Capitals, that's what Ganguly's new position, specific to the Parth Jindal-led brand, will entail. GMR group is said to have decided Badani and Rao's arrival and head coach Ricky Ponting and Ganguly's departure from the IPL set-ups.

Now, according to Cricbuzz, though Sourav Ganguly could be present at the IPL 2025 auction, his role is expected to be limited behind the GMR men.

"I am pleased" - Sourav Ganguly on working with the JSW Group

Ganguly's appointment on the women's team would be interesting because the former BCCI supremo hasn't officially coached a women's side before. Ahead of the new adventure, the 52-year-old said he's "pleased" about the opportunity.

“I’ve had the pleasure of knowing the JSW Group and the Jindal family personally and professionally which made this an easy decision. JSW Sports has been doing visionary work across the board, and I am pleased to be able to lend my experience to all its cricketing projects," Ganguly said in a statement.

Jindal, in his statement, said Ganguly was 'family first' for JSW and that he was 'humbled and delighted' to see 'Dada' in the new role.
