"Cricket will make you cry 300 days out of 365"- Former Pakistan cricketer slams Mohammed Shami for his 'cartoonish' remark on Inzamam-ul-Haq

India v New Zealand: Semi Final - ICC Men
Mohammed Shami had taken an indirect dig at comments made by Inzamam-ul-Haq

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali was disappointed with Indian pacer Mohammed Shami's choice of words against the allegations made by former Pakistan captain Inazamam-ul-Haq. On a local sports channel in Pakistan, Inzamam indirectly questioned Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh for tampering with the ball during the T20 World Cup.

Rubbishing these allegations, Mohammed Shami called Inzamam's remarks cartoonish and here's what he said on Shubhankar Mishra's podcast:

"The team that performs against them (Pakistan) gets targeted there. Suppose I bowled with the device and pressed the button incorrectly. I intended to bowl an inswinger but it turned into an outswinger, resulting in a boundary. Ye cartoon giri kahin aur chal sakti hai, yeh public ko bewakoof banane wali baate hain (This kind of cartoonish behavior can happen elsewhere; these are just ways to fool the public)."

However, Basit Ali didn't take these words kindly and expected Mohammed Shami to treat Inzamam-ul-Haq with the respect that the Pakistan legend deserved. Here's what he said on his YouTube channel:

"If you think Inzi bhai said something wrong, say it nicely. Don't call him a cartoon and all that. Have some respect. He's a senior. You should respect your seniors. If you don't, cricket will make you cry 300 days out of 365 and only make you happy for 65 days. So, please don't do this, it's a personal request."

Shami also slammed the allegations made by former Pakistan cricketer Hasan Raza during the 2023 World Cup. Raza had claimed that the Indian pacers were probably getting a different ball with a chip in it and that was the reason why they were getting extravagant swing.

Mohammed Shami kept giving 'behuda' answers: Basit Ali

Basit Ali further accused Mohammed Shami of making insensitive remarks, terming them as 'behuda' (indecent). Demanding more respect for Inzamam, Ali stated:

"Be a bit more careful, you can't just say anything anywhere. Whatever question is asked, you keep giving 'behuda' (indecent) answers. I'm using the right word, 'behuda (indecent)'. Aapne behuda zabaan use kiya hai (You've used indecent language). Your elders probably never taught you this."

Shami had called out the remarks from former Pakistan cricketers in the past as well, giving the example of how former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram correctly explained the process of choosing a ball.
