Guyana Amazon Warriors overpowered St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in a six-hitting battle at Warner Park in the seventh match of the CPL 2024 season. The 40-run victory outcome helped the Warriors jump past Barbados Royals and Trinbago Knight Riders to take the second spot on the six-team points table.

With two wins from two matches and an NRR worth 1.075, the Guyana Amazon Warriors are ranked only behind table-toppers St Lucia Kings. The Kings franchise has also accumulated four points so far, but an explosive NRR of 1.503 is keeping them leagues ahead from the in-form Warriors unit.

Barbados Royals and Trinbago Knight Riders each lost a rung to slip to number three and four respectively on the CPL 2024 points table. While the Royals hold an NRR of 2.363, the Knight Riders’ NRR is currently valued 2.200.

St Kitts & Nevis Patriots failed to make any advancements from their fifth position after their defeat to the Warriors. Winless Antigua & Barbuda Falcons continue to languish at the bottom of the points table after losing four consecutive matches with a dismal NRR of -0.937.

Shimron Hetmyer’s 39-ball 91 ruffles the Patriots in CPL 2024

Guyana Amazon Warriors mounted a staggering total of 266/7 from 20 overs upon batting first. Opening batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz smuggled 69 runs from just 37 deliveries at the top of the order and shared a 116-run partnership with Shimron Hetmyer after two early dismissals.

Hetmyer himself launched 11 scorching sixes in his 39-ball knock that yielded 91 runs for the Warriors in the middle overs. Keemo Paul chipped in with a 14-ball 38 while Dwaine Pretorius and Raymon Reifer smeared sizzling five-ball cameos at the death to set up the monumental Warriors total.

Chasing 267, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots lost opener Evin Lewis for just three to Dwaine Pretorius in the first over of the innings. Captain Andre Fletcher kept the chase alive through some belligerent hitting alongside Kyle Mayers (28 off 17) and Sherfane Rutherford (34 off 12). Fletcher himself blasted four fours and nine sixes to top-score with 81 runs from just 33 deliveries.

Unfortunately for the Patriots, his dismissal in the 12th over was followed by a slew of wickets as they were bowled out for 226 in 18 overs to fall 40 runs short of their target. For the Warriors, spinners Gudakesh Motie (3/34) and Imran Tahir (3/48) picked up six wickets between them to orchestrate the huge win for their team.
