The Antigua & Barbuda Falcons registered their first win of the CPL 2024 season by defeating the Trinbago Knight Riders in Antigua. The outcome helped the Falcons open their account on the CPL 2024 points table, rising up to take the fifth slot on the six-team standings.

The St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, meanwhile, slipped to the bottom of the table owing to the Falcons’ late resurgence. Despite losing to the Falcons, the Knight Riders remain at number four on the points table with two points from two games and an NRR worth 0.950.

Unbeaten St Lucia Kings remain at the top of the table with four points from two matches and a formidable NRR of 1.503. Guyana Amazon Warriors, also with four points, are in second position courtesy of an NRR of 1.075. The Barbados Royals stayed put at number three with a win from their lone fixture so far.

Fabian Allen’s all-round show wins it for the Falcons

Batting first, the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons made 176/6 from their 20 overs. Opening batters Fakhar Zaman and Justin Greaves scored swift 30s at the top of the order before their respective dismissals to Waqar Salamkheil and Sunil Narine.

Narine also got rid of a struggling Roshon Primus (19 off 26) at number three as the Falcons reached 114/3 in 14 overs. Imad Wasim went berserk at the backend of the innings with four fours and two sixes in his 46 off 29 balls. Fabian Allen also launched a couple of fours and a six in his 11-ball 25* to take the Falcons to a competitive total.

Chasing 177, the Trinbago Knight Riders lost explosive opener Sunil Narine to Chris Green for a four-ball duck. Andries Gous and Shaqkere Parris regained some control for the Knight Riders with a fighting 62-run partnership, but Fabian Allen’s three-wicket burst tilted the tide back in the Falcons’ favour.

As the Knight Riders slipped to a troublesome 79/4, Keacy Carty and captain Kieron Pollard unleashed their six-hitting fury to slap swift 30s. Mohammad Amir and Roshon Primus eventually sealed the deal for the Falcons by restricting the Knight Riders to 170/9.
