The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will square off against the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 46th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday.

Chennai have slipped to sixth position in the points table after losing their last two games against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). CSK have won four and lost as many in eight games so far. They will be desperate to bounce back and put their campaign back on track against the SunRisers.

SRH are also coming off the back of a loss, suffering a shock defeat to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Despite that, they find themselves third in the standings with five wins from eight matches.

With two heavyweight sides going up against each other, fans will likely turn up in huge numbers to support their favorite team. Much to their delight, there is no rainfall in the forecast throughout the game, meaning a full 40 overs of action is expected. However, there will be significant cloud cover, including intermittent clouds around the stadium.

The temperature, meanwhile, will be high, ranging around the 35 degrees Celsius mark. However, the actual feeling will be around 40 degrees because of the high humidity levels.

"Most of the spinners are not spinning the ball" - SRH coach Muttiah Muralitharan on lack of success for spinners in IPL 2024

Bowlers, mainly spinners, have had a lot of struggles in the ongoing IPL 2024 season with teams scoring 250+ totals for fun. Only two spinners find themselves in the top-10 list of highest wicket-takers.

Speaking about the lack of success of spinners this year, SRH's spin bowling coach Muttiah Muralitharan reckoned that they had stopped spinning the ball.

The former Sri Lankan great told reporters:

"The problem with spinners in India who are playing at the moment is most of the spinners are not spinning the ball. That is the main criteria because they are bowling a little quicker, so no deviation."
"If you see in practice, batsmen are use to throw-downs and power-hitting, so they are now used to it if the ball is coming straight at 85-90 mph, and it comes straight their muscle memory is already practiced to it," he continued. "If it deviates, brain does not know how to react, so that's why spinners must learn how to spin the ball then they have a better chance."

What do you think is the reason behind the spinners' lack of success in IPL 2024? Let us know in the comments.
