Jharkhand, Railways claim outright wins; J&K, Haryana take first-innings lead

At India Cements Cricket Ground, Madhya Pradesh batted first and were skittled out for 225 by Shubham Singh (3/35) and Saurabh Shekhar (3/35). In response, Jharkhand (289) mounted a 64-run first-innings lead courtesy a blistering century from comeback man Ishan Kishan (114 off 107). Madhya Pradesh’s Aniket Verma overcame the deficit by slamming a near run-a-ball 110 to set up a 175-run target. Again led by Ishan Kishan’s unbeaten 41, Jharkhand overcame Akash Rajawat’s threatening four-fer to seal the chase.

Between Indian Railways and Gujarat in Salem, the former bashed 570 runs in the first innings through centuries from Vivek Singh, Pratham Singh and Sahaib Yuvraj. In response, Gujarat line-up folded up for just 227 by Purnak Tyagi (3/25) and Himanshu Sangwan (2/24). Railways further stretched their 343-run lead to 481 by declaring at 138/5. Chasing 482, Manan Hingrajia shaped a fighting ton but a five-fer from Ayan Chaudhary and a four-fer by Raj Chaudhary ensured that Railways took home the honours by a 139-run margin.

At Sri Ramakrishna College Ground, Haryana charted 419 largely owing to a 147-run knock by Dheeru Singh. Nishant Sindhu and Lakshay Sangwan also shaped crafty half-centuries against Mumbai’s weary bowling attack. In response, Sangwan (3/30) and Sumit Kumar (2/38) dusted out the 42-time Ranji Trophy champions for just 245 to secure a 174-run advantage for Haryana.

Following on, Mumbai made 321 in the second innings to set up a target of 148 runs. Even though Haryana stopped on 105/6, they bagged three points on the basis of securing a first-innings lead.

In the fourth and final match of the opening round, Chhattisgarh were bundled out for 278 by Abid Mushtaq (4/47) and Sahil Lotra (3/91). Later, Jammu and Kashmir opener Shubham Khajuria mounted 202 runs alongside fellow centurion Sahil Lotra to take their team to 587/9.

Chasing a huge deficit, Prateek Yadav’s unbeaten 148 led Chhattisgarh’s second innings act to reach 276/2. However, the match resulted in a tame draw at the NPR College Ground, with J&K logging three points on first-innings lead.
