The third round of the Buchi Babu Cricket Tournament 2024 concluded on Friday, August 30. Hyderabad defeated Madhya Pradesh in Group A while TNCA Presidents XI secured a resounding win over Gujarat in Group B. TNCA XI trounced Mumbai in Group C to qualify for the next round, and similarly, Chhattisgarh ravaged Baroda in their Group D bout.

Hyderabad registered their second win in succession to retain their number one position on the Group A points table. With six points, Jharkhand is placed second and they are followed by winless Madhya Pradesh at the bottom.

In Group B, TNCA Presidents XI took the top spot after defeating Gujarat. The NRR of TNCA Presidents XI currently stands at a healthy 1.386. Indian Railways are ranked second with seven points from two games while Gujarat has failed to open its account to be placed at the bottom.

The TNCA XI displaced Haryana from the top of the Group C points table after defeating Mumbai. Haryana slipped to number two for having accumulated four points from their two fixtures. Mumbai is positioned third on the table for failing to register a single win.

Chhattisgarh secured a huge win over Baroda to top the Group D standings with seven points in two matches. Baroda and Jammu & Kashmir slipped to number two and number three, respectively, after Chhattisgarh’s latest win.


Buchi Babu 2024 round three report

In Group A, Madhya Pradesh batted first and were bundled out for 207 by Hyderabad bowlers Aniketh Reddy (3/55) and Tanay Thyagarajan (3/59). Hyderabad mounted 353 runs of lead by amassing 560/6d. Abhirath M top-scored with 211 while Hima Teja and Varun Goud also listed dazzling half-centuries. Hyderabad’s Aniketh Reddy once again folded up Madhya Pradesh cheaply, this time for 124 by picking up 5/46 to seal an innings win for his team.

Between TNCA Presidents XI and Gujarat, the former prevailed by a five-wicket margin despite facing a 160-run deficit at the halfway stage of the match. TNCA Presidents XI’s Siddharth M tilted the tide in his team’s favor by dusting out Gujarat for just 58 with second-innings figures of 8/21. Andre Siddarth C made an unbeaten 115 to steer them past their 219-run target.

In Group C of the Buchi Babu 2024, TNCA XI batted first and made 379. Their bowlers Sai Kishore R (5/36) and Lakshay Jain S (3/30) demolished Mumbai for just 156 to secure a 223-run lead for the TNCA XI. Half-centuries from Athish S R, Lokeshwar S, and Mokit Hariharan R S helped the TNCA XI set Mumbai a daunting target of 510 runs. Mumbai batters failed to rise to the occasion in front of Sai Kishore R (3/52) and Achyuth C V (3/37) to fall 286 runs short of their target.

The Group D match between Baroda and Chhattisgarh witnessed the latter securing an eight-wicket win after gaining a 100-run lead at the halfway stage. Baroda batters crumbled in front of Shashank Tiwari’s five-fer in the second innings to set Chhattisgarh a measly target of 76. The Chhattisgarh team overhauled their target in just 8.4 overs with eight wickets to spare.
