Pakistan lost to England by an innings and 47 runs in the first Test of the three-match series in Multan on Day 5 (Friday, October 11). The loss came even as the hosts posted 556 runs in their first innings.
Batting first, the Men in Green posted 556, courtesy of centuries from skipper Shan Masood (151 off 177), Abdullah Shafique (102 off 184), and Agha Salman (104* off 119). Jack Leach starred with the ball, returning with three wickets, while Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse bagged two wickets apiece.
In response, the visitors declared at 823/7 in their first innings. Harry Brook top-scored with 317 off 322 deliveries, an innings laced with three sixes and 29 boundaries. Joe Root also slammed 262 off 375, comprising 17 boundaries. The duo shared a 454-run partnership for the fourth wicket to leave Pakistan in shambles. Naseem Shah and Saim Ayub picked up two wickets each for the Men in Green.
In response, the Shan Masood-led side were bundled out for 220 in their second innings. Agha Salman and Aamer Jamal chipped in with 63 (84) and 55* (104), respectively, but failed to take the team over the line.
Fans on X trolled Pakistan for losing the opening Test on a batting-friendly pitch in Multan. One user wrote:

With the loss, Pakistan continued their poor ruin at home. The Men in Green have not won a home Test in their last 10 outings. They have managed four draws and six losses.
The Shan Masood-led side recently lost the two-match Test series 0-2 against Bangladesh. Under his captaincy, Pakistan had also lost the three-match Test series in Australia by a 0-3 margin.
The second Test between Pakistan and England will be played at the same venue, beginning Tuesday, October 15.
