Bud Cricket Club secured a five-wicket win over the New Star Club in the seventh fixture of the 2024 Assam T20 Pride Cup hosted at the Nehru Stadium, Gujarat.

Meanwhile, the eighth match of the season saw the Gauhati Town Club script a five-wicket win over the Ankurjyoti Club, winning their bout with five deliveries to spare.

With the tournament eight games in, let's see how the participating teams are placed on the points table:

Gauhati Town Club, after a win over Ankurjyoti Club, top the points table, having amassed a total of five points in three matches. They jumped to the first position from second with a net run rate of +1.245.

River Rine Club, with a perfect record of two wins in two matches so far this season, slipped to second place from first with four points in two matches and a healthy net run rate of +0.689. Bud Cricket Club, after a comfortable win over New Star, climbed up to the third spot from fourth with two wins in three matches, boasting a total of four points and a net run rate of -0.482.

A total of three teams in the lower half of the points leaderboard, namely New Star Club, City Cricket Club, and Ankurjyoti Club, are yet to get started on the win column having lost all of their respective games. With a net run rate of -0.784, New Star Club moved down to fourth place from third with one loss and two no results and just two points at this stage of the season.

City Cricket Club and Ankurjyoti Club languish in the fifth and sixth positions, respectively, with net run rates of -0.350 and -0.853. City CC have just scored a solitary point in two matches, while Ankurjyoti, with three losses in three games, are yet to score a point in this tournament.


Bud CC, Gauhati Town Club win their respective bouts on a low-scoring day at the office

After being put into bat by Bud CC, the New Star Club could only manage a paltry 88/9 in the first inning courtesy of a comprehensive bowling performance by Bud bowlers.

Bhaskar Kalita (3/11) scalped three wickets for his side while skipper Arun Sonar (36 off 39) waged a lone war for New Star.

The likes of Manikarna Sharma (22 off 23), Dibash Hazarika (28* off 29), and Tushar Saha (15* off 23) ensured that Bud CC crossed the finish line with ease, winning the seventh match of the campaign with five wickets and 17 balls to spare.

In the second match of the day, the batting duo of skipper Akash Basfor (24 off 38) and Tej Khan (24* off 11) top-scored for the Ankurjyoti Club, posting 116/6 in the first 20 overs against Gauhati Town Club. Mantu Yadav (3/19) ended the first half of the game as the highest wicket-taker for the Gauhati-based franchise.

Chasing 117 Gauhati skipper Yubraj Tewari (48* off 45) took responsibility in his own hands, guiding his team to a five-wicket win in the second encounter of the day. Tewari’s innings were laced with four boundaries while Ankurjyoti bowlers Ranjan Sarkar, Sanjeet Das, and Tej Khan snared one wicket each but in vain.
