The Coastal Riders won the 14th game of the 2024 Andhra Premier League by six against the Godavari Titans on Tuesday, July 9. Meanwhile, the Uttarandhra Lions defeated the Bezawada Tigers by five wickets in the 15th fixture of the tournament.

The Uttarandhra Lions are now atop the 2024 Andhra Premier League standings with four wins in five games and a tally of 16 points. Rayalaseema Kings are in second place on the points table with 16 points in five matches. A slightly inferior net run rate of +0.809 puts them in the second spot.

Vizag Warriors and Coastal Riders occupy the third and fourth positions, respectively, with eerily similar stats. Both teams have managed to score 12 points in five games, winning three out of the five played so far. The Warriors have a slightly better run rate of +0.548, while the Coastal Riders have a net run rate of -1.412.

Godavari Titans languish in the fifth spot with just one victory in five games and a points tally of four. The Bezawada Tigers’ horror campaign continues as they have yet to register a single victory so far and are invariably at the bottom of the points table.

Riders win over the Titans by six wickets; Tigers slump to their fifth consecutive loss

Winning the toss and electing to bowl first proved to be fruitful for the Coastal Riders in the first game of the day. They bundled out the Godavari Titans for a mere 138 runs in just 17.1 overs. Part of the reason why the Godavari Titans couldn't post a competitive total is that no batter in their lineup went to score big after decent starts.

Opener Mamidi Vamsi Krishna scored 29 off just 24 deliveries at a strike rate of 120.83. Meanwhile, KV Sasikanth was the second-highest run scorer for the Godavari Titans, scoring 24 off just 18 balls with two boundaries and a six to his name. Coastal Riders bowlers Yarragunta Pramod took three wickets in his spell with Siraparapu Ashish’s 2/16 in four overs.

In the second inning, opener Shaik Rasheed continued his brilliant run form with his 33-ball 39 at the top of the inning. Meanwhile, Abhishek Reddy top-scored for the Riders with his total of 61 runs in 42 deliveries. Reddy batted at a strike rate of 145.24 thanks to four boundaries and three sixes in his innings. In the end, the Riders cruised past the target set by the Godavari Titans in just 17.3 overs with six wickets to spare.

The Uttarandhra Lions elected to bowl first in the second game of the day against the Bezawada Tigers. The Lions bowlers restricted the Tigers to a first-inning score of 126/7 in 20 overs. Dhruva Kumar Reddy (70) and KP Sai Rahul were the top scorers for the Bezawada Tigers, while Pinninti Tejaswi took 2/14 for the Uttarandhra Lions.

A target of 127 runs was always going to be difficult for the Bezawada Tigers to defend. That seemed to be the case as the Uttarandhra Lions chased the target with five wickets to spare. Seeram Venkata Rahul (38) and Sirla Hima Srinivas (42) were the top run contributors for the Lions. Meanwhile, Tigers bowlers Lalith Mohan and Akash Gaddipathi took two wickets apiece in vain.
