Afghanistan will host South Africa for a three-match One Day International series at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in UAE. This will be the first time Afghanistan will be hosting South Africa for a bilateral series. The two teams have been pitted against each other previously in World Cups only.

The last time South Africa played Afghanistan across formats was in the recently concluded ICC Men's T20 World Cup semi-final. Opting to bowl first, the Proteas dismissed Afghanistan for a meager score of 60 runs. They chased down the target easily and qualified for their maiden final of a men's ICC event.

In ODI's, the two teams have faced each other twice, with the Rainbow Nation comfortably sealing both contests. They first met at the 2019 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, where they dismissed Afghanistan cheaply and managed to secure a win. They faced each other at the 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup and the encounter yielded a similar result, with the Proteas securing a semi-final berth and knocking out Afghanistan in the process.

The ODI series will be a three-match affair and will be taking place at the iconic Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The games will be held on September 18, 20, and 23.

South Africa to play against Ireland in the UAE for a 3-match ODI and T20I series

South Africa's ODI series against Afghanistan serves as a precursor for the Ireland tour that has been scheduled shortly after. They will be taking on Ireland in a three-match T20I and ODI series, with the series entirely to be held at the Sheikh Zayed International Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

This will be the second time South Africa will be taking on Ireland at a neutral venue. Back in 2022, the two sides faced each other at the County Ground in Bristol, where the Proteas emerged on top, winning 2-0 in the T20I series. They will hope to repeat the same result this time around as well.
