The much-anticipated ACC T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024 is set to get underway at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground in Muscat, Oman. The eight-team competition will return for its sixth edition and take place from October 18 to 27.
Five teams, India A, Pakistan A, Sri Lanka A, Afghanistan and Bangladesh A secured direct qualification. Meanwhile, the other three teams, United Arab Emirates, Oman and Hong Kong qualified through the 2024 ACC Men’s Premier Cup.
Eight teams are divided into two groups with four teams each. A team will play three league games each and the top two performing sides in each group will progress to the semi-finals, followed by the final.
For the first-time ever, the tournament will take place in a T20 format. So far, five editions (2013, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2023) of the continental tournament have taken place, with Sri Lanka and Pakistan lifting titles on two occasions each and India managing a solitary championship victory. The last edition saw Pakistan A winning the title by securing a 128-run victory over India A.
Tilak Varma, Mohammad Haris, Akbar Ali, Nizakat Khan and Sediqullah Atal have been appointed as the leaders of India A, Pakistan A, Bangladesh A, Hong Kong and Afghanistan A sides, respectively. Despite announcing the squad, Sri Lanka are yet to choose the squad, while Oman and United Arab Emirates have not made their names public.
In their bid to prepare a bench strength for the 2026 T20 World Cup, the BCCI has picked Rahul Chahar, Abhishek Sharma, Sai Kishore and Ayush Badoni.
