Oman went up against the UAE in the final of the ACC Men’s T20I Premier Cup 2024 on Sunday, April 21, at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground (Ministry Turf 1) in Al Amerat.
The UAE defeated Oman convincingly by 55 runs in a one-sided game to lift the championship. Oman won the toss and invited the UAE to bat first. The UAE openers grabbed the opportunity by adding 93 runs off 58 deliveries for the first wicket.
Alishan Sharafu was the first one to go for 34 runs off 28 deliveries but his partner Muhammad Waseem smoked a brilliant century off 56 deliveries before getting out.
Meanwhile, Asif Khan played a brilliant unbeaten cameo of 38 runs off 16 deliveries to take the UAE to 204/4 in 20 overs. Bilal Khan was the pick of the bowlers for Oman with two wickets for 35 runs in his spell of four overs.
Chasing the total, Oman lost the plot early when their top three batters returned to the pavilion inside 2.2 overs. The wicketkeeper-batter Pratik Athavale top-scored with 49 runs off 30 deliveries but it was not enough.
In the end, Oman could only reach 149/9 in 20 overs. Junaid Siddique bagged three wickets for the UAE, while Muhammad Farooq and Aayan Afzal Khan picked up two wickets each.
ACC Men's T20I Premier Cup 2024 Most Runs List
Alishan Sharafu finished as the leading run-getter in the competition with 278 runs in six matches at an average of 92.66. Thanks to his brilliant century in the final, Muhammad Waseem jumped to the second spot with 269 runs in six matches. Meanwhile, Asif Khan finished third on the list with 259 runs in six games.
There was no change elsewhere on the list as Nizakat Khan, Babar Hayat and Muhammad Tanveer remained the next three, respectively. Aqib Ilyas had the chance to move up on the list but he could only score seven runs to finish seventh with 175 runs in six games. Anshuman Rath and Dipendra Singh Airee remained the next two, respectively, while Naseem Khushi finished 10th on the list with 149 runs after failing to open his account in the final.
ACC Men's T20I Premier Cup 2024 Most Wickets List
Aqib Ilyas failed to get any wicket in the final but he finished the leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 12 wickets in five games. Courtesy of the two wickets, Aayan Afzal Khan jumped to second place with 10 wickets in six games at an average of 12.80, while Ehsan Khan finished third with 10 wickets against his name in six games, averaging 15.90.
Adding two wickets to his tally, Bilal Khan finished fourth with 10 wickets in six matches at an average of 16.40. Meanwhile, there was no change in the next four spots as Usman Najeeb finished with nine wickets followed by Dipendra Singh Airee, Himanshu Rathod, and Virandeep Singh, respectively, with eight wickets each.
After scalping two wickets in the final, Muhammad Farooq finished ninth on the list with eight wickets in six games at an average of 18.87. Meanwhile, Aizaz Khan finished 10th with eight wickets in five games, averaging 19.37.
