West Indies took on New Zealand in the 26th match of the 2024 T20 World Cup at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad, on Thursday, June 13. New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl first.

West Indies had a terrible start to their innings, losing the first five wickets for 30 runs. It was Sherfane Rutherford’s unbeaten 68-run knock off 39 deliveries that saved the day for the two-time champions.

West Indies posted a 149-run total for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs. Trent Boult was the pick of the Kiwi bowlers, taking three wickets for 16 runs in four overs. Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson picked up two wickets apiece.

New Zealand also had a disappointing start, losing three wickets before reaching the 50-run mark. Glenn Phillips was the only batter to cross the 30-run mark for the team.

New Zealand finished with 136 runs for the loss of nine wickets and lost the match by 13 runs. Alzarri Joseph bowled an exceptional spell for the West Indies, taking four wickets for 19 runs in four overs. Gudakesh Motie continued his great run in the tournament and finished with three wickets for 25 runs in his spell of four overs. Rutherford won the Player of the Match award for his batting performance.

Andries Gous is still in fifth place with 102 runs in three innings at an average of 34.

Gerhard Erasmus is still in sixth position and has scored 101 runs in three outings at a strike rate of 112.22.

Nicholas Kirton is still in seventh place and has 101 runs in three matches at an average of 33.66.

Marcus Stoinis is still in eighth position with 97 runs in two innings at a strike rate of 183.01.

Rishabh Pant is still in ninth place and has 96 runs in three outings at a strike rate of 124.67.
