West Indies took on Afghanistan in the 40th match of the 2024 T20 World Cup on Tuesday, June 18, at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia. Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bowl.

West Indies lost their first wicket in the form of Brandon King in the second over of their innings. The other batters did exceptionally well. The next four batters had a strike rate of around 150. Nicholas Pooran emerged as the highest scorer and finished with 98 runs off 53 deliveries.

West Indies posted a total of 218 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. Gulbadin Naib was the pick of the bowlers for Afghanistan and took two wickets for 14 runs in two overs.

Afghanistan lost the wicket of Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the very first over. Only two batters managed to make more than 20 runs. Ibrahim Zadran amassed the most runs for the team and made 38 runs off 28 deliveries. Afghanistan were bundled out for 114 runs and lost the match by 104 runs. Obed McCoy took three wickets for 14 runs in three overs. Akeal Hosein and Gudakesh Motie took two wickets each.

Marcus Stoinis has moved to third position from second and has scored 148 runs in three matches at a strike rate of 189.74.

Ibrahim Zadran has jumped to fourth place from ninth and has amassed 152 runs in four outings at an average of 38.

Travis Head has slipped to fifth place from third and has made 148 runs in four innings at an average of 49.33.

Aaron Jones has moved to sixth position from fourth and has 141 runs to his name in three matches at a strike rate of 160.22.

Brandon McMullen has slipped to seventh place from fifth and has made 140 runs in four innings at a strike rate of 170.73.

George Munsey has moved to eighth position from sixth and has scored 124 runs in four outings at a strike rate of 139.32.

Babar Azam has slipped to ninth place from seventh and has amassed 116 runs in four games at a strike rate of 146.83.
