Australia became the new tabletoppers in 2024 T20 World Cup points table for Group 1 after a fantastic win against Bangladesh on Thursday (June 20). The Aussies defeated the Najmul Hossain Shanto-led outfit by 28 runs via D/L method at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound.

Australian skipper Mitchell Marsh won the toss and decided to bowl first. The decision worked in his team's favor as Bangladesh managed only 140/8 in 20 overs. Pat Cummins stole the show with a hat-trick for Australia.

Chasing 141 for a win, Australia were 100/2 after 11.2 overs when rain interrupted the proceedings. No further play was possible, and the officials declared Australia as the winners via D/L method.

Australia's net run rate has received a major boost after the 28-run victory over Bangladesh. Mitchell Marsh and co. now have two points from one match and a solid net run rate of +2.471. India have dropped down to the second position because of Australia's rise. India also have two points from one match, but their net run rate stands at +2.350.

Defending champions England will clash against the undefeated South African side today in 2024 T20 World Cup. England are at the helm of the Group 2 standings right now, but if they lose against the Proteas, they will slip to the second position in the 2024 T20 World Cup points table for Group 2.

South Africa are second at the moment. They have a golden opportunity to almost seal their place in the semifinals by defeating Jos Buttler's men. It will be interesting to see which team emerges victorious in the battle between South Africa and England.
