Bihar cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi made history on Tuesday, October 1, by scoring the fastest century by an Indian in Under-19 Test cricket. He achieved this remarkable feat during the ongoing unofficial Test match against Australia Under-19 in Chennai.

The 13-year-old reached his hundred off just 58 balls, making it the fastest by an Indian and the second fastest overall. The record is currently held by England’s Moeen Ali, who scored an unbeaten century off 56 balls against Sri Lanka, including 10 boundaries and five sixes in 2005.

Vaibhav was run out shortly after reaching his milestone, finishing with 104 runs off 62 balls, which featured 14 boundaries and four sixes. At the time of writing, India were at 240/4, with captain Soham Patwardhan (27*) and Abhigyan Kundu (18*) at the crease.

Earlier in the game, Australia was bowled out for 293 in their first innings, with Aidan O’Connor leading the way with 61 runs off 70 balls. Riley Kingsell (53) and Christian Howe (48) also made important contributions. For India, Samarth Nagaraj and Mohamed Enaan picked three wickets each.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi made his Ranji Trophy debut earlier this year at the age of 12

This isn’t the first time Vaibhav Suryavanshi has garnered attention. Earlier this year, he became the second youngest cricketer to play in the Ranji Trophy for Bihar at an age of 12, making him the fourth youngest overall.

In his debut match, he scored 19 and 12 runs in two innings. But Mumbai dominated the game, winning by an innings and 51 runs.

However, he was dismissed for a duck in both innings during his second match against Chhattisgarh. Meanwhile, the game ended in a draw.

Before that, he played for the India B U-19 team in a Quadrangular Under-19 series alongside India A, England, and Bangladesh. In six innings, he accumulated 177 runs, including two half-centuries.
