Sri Lanka Women are touring Ireland for a limited-overs series. It comprises two T20Is and three ODIs. The ODIs are a part of the ICC Championship. The three-match ODI series begins on August 16 after the T20I series came to an end on August 13.
The T20I series was a closely fought one. Sri Lanka Women won the first game convincingly by seven wickets before the Ireland Women bounced back. The Irish side won the second T20I by seven runs to draw the series level. This was their first win over Sri Lanka in the shortest format.
The action will now shift to Belfast for the ODI series. All three ODIs will be played at the Civil Service Cricket Club. The first game will be played on Friday, August 16. The next two will be played on August 18 and August 20.
Ireland Women’s last ODI assignment came in January when they toured Zimbabwe for a three-match ODI series. The Ireland Women won the series by a 2-0 margin after the second ODI ended in a tie because of the DLS method.
The Ireland Women can gain confidence from that while taking on Sri Lanka Women in the upcoming ODI series. Laura Delany will miss the series due to ankle injury. In her absence, Gaby Lewis will lead the side. Amy Hunter, Leah Paul, and Rebecca Stokell are the other experienced players in the team.
Sri Lanka Women, on the other hand, last played ODI cricket in June when they hosted West Indies Women for a three-match series. It was a comprehensive victory for them as they whitewashed the Caribbean side. They will be hoping to emulate the same performance against the Irish side.
Chamari Athapaththu is back in the side after missing out the T20I series. She was representing the Oval Invincibles in the Women’s Hundred 2024 and is back leading the national side.
Harshitha Samarawickrama, Nilakshi de Silva, Kavisha Dilhari, and Sugandika Kumari are the regular members in the side and will play a crucial role for the Lankan side along with their skipper Athapaththu.
