IPL 2018: 3 tactical changes Mumbai Indians should do to change their fortunes

Over the years, Mumbai Indians have produced some magical performances in the Indian Premier League, and have become one of the most consistent sides of the tournament.

However, their new squad has received anything but criticism thus far, and two consecutive defeats, against Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, have added to the anger of their loyal fans.

But MI fans have seen their team rise from the ashes and make a comeback previously, and will hope that their team does it once more. They will face Delhi Daredevils on April 14 and can register their first victory of IPL 11 by tweaking their team a little.

#3 Playing three spinners

The 20-year-old spinner from Bathinda, Mayank Markande has done a brilliant job so far by picking up 7 wickets in two games and keeping his economy rate under 6 runs per over. The other spin alternative Krunal Pandya bowled just a couple of overs in the match against SRH and didn't even get a chance to bowl in the game against CSK.

Rohit Sharma's plan of a pace-heavy bowling attack hasn't worked, and it's time MI field three spinners in their team, two of them being specialists. Teams like CSK and KXIP have gone with three spinning options, and have reaped great rewards.

MI have a young leg-spin option in Rahul Chahar, whose T20 career economy rate is under 7 runs per over. Chahar was bought by MI for Rs 1.9 crores and should play in the match against DD.

#2 Including JP Duminy in their batting order and opening the innings with Ishan Kishan

Evin Lewis is one of the hottest prospects in world cricket currently, but many such players have succumbed to the massive pressure of playing in IPL. Lewis failed to open his account in the first game, and couldn't capitalize on the great start he got in the second game. As a result, MI can turn to experienced South African, JP Duminy.

Duminy has played 77 games in the IPL and knows the ins and outs of playing in the IPL. He has an IPL career average of just under 40 and can play the sheet anchor role in the middle-order.

Besides that, Duminy also provides a spin bowling alternative to Sharma. He has picked up 23 wickets in IPL, and has an impressive economy rate of just over 7 runs per over.

Wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan can be used as an opener alongside skipper Rohit Sharma. Kishan, being a naturally aggressive player, can utilize the field restrictions to the fullest.

#1 Giving the ball to Kieron Pollard

Rohit Sharma had immense faith in his primary bowlers, but they failed to prove their worth. He has tried every other alternative, but surprisingly enough, he hasn't given West Indian, Kieron Pollard a chance to bowl.

Sharma can use Pollard in the middle as well as the death overs. The all-rounder is very effective with the ball in hand and can surprise the batters with his occasional slower ones. Pollard has 56 wickets to his name in the IPL as well.
