Interview with Ajit Agarkar: Sachin playing for Mumbai is a big boost for all of us

Ranji Trophy Super League Group A Match-Railways Vs Mumbai

Ajit Agarkar has represented India in more than 200 matches and is currently the captain of the Mumbai Ranji Team. He plays for the Delhi Daredevils in the IPL. For now, he has a tough job on hand to guide the Mumbai team in to the semi finals.

What is it like to captain the Mumbai Ranji team?

It’s a great honour to be leading such a great team. If you look at the number of great players this team has given to Indian cricket, you would be amazed. It’s a great privilege to lead such a talented side. We have been doing well this season and I am happy with it.

This is going to be a crucial match for Mumbai against Baroda. Are you all set?

Yes, very much. We are totally focused on this match and have left the worst behind us.

Fielding has not been up to the mark. Are you guys working on it?

Yes, that has been our area of concern and we have been working on it. I know we have dropped some important catches in the previous few matches but you see, in a game, all this happens. We have taken some good ones but dropped a few too.

Are you planning to bring about any changes in the number of bowlers you will be playing in this match?

We are going to stick with 4, as our bowlers have been doing good.

How did the pitch look to you?

It is the same like it was against Punjab. It has a little grass on it. It’s a good batting wicket I would say.

Wasim Jaffer’s father is not well. Will he (Wasim Jaffer) be playing?

Yes, his dad is in a critical condition but he came for practice today and is keen on playing for us, which shows what a dedicated player he is. He is in good form too and is our key player.

Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma will be missing this match but Sachin is playing. Will the duo be missed?

Yes, they both are our key players but since they are on national duty, nothing can be done about it. Sachin is playing, yes, and him playing for Mumbai is a big boost for all of us in the team. This would be his second domestic match of the season.

Baroda has players like Yusuf and Ambati who have been in top form. Are you worried about them?

Well, we are worried about all the 11 players in their team, as they have made it to the quarter finals of the Ranji match. Both are good players, no doubt, but we have to worry about ourselves.
