The first Test between India and New Zealand commenced on Thursday (October 17) after the opening day of the contest was washed out due to rain. The game moved ahead at a rapid pace on Day 2, courtesy of a dominant performance from New Zealand.

Team India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first in overcast and damp conditions. It proved to be a costly mistake in hindsight as the hosts were skittled out for a paltry score of 46 in their first innings in just 31.2 overs.

Matt Henry (5/15) and William O'Rourke (4/22) bowled magnificently in the seamer-friendly conditions and were too hot to handle for the Indian batters. Only Rishabh Pant (20) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (13) scored in double digits, while five batters got out for a duck.

Devon Conway then put salt in the wounds for the Indian team by playing an aggressive knock of 91 (105) to set up a good platform for New Zealand in their first innings. Rachin Ravindra (22) and Daryl Mitchell (14) held the fort for Kiwis at stumps on Day 2 as they reached 180/3 to be ahead by 134 runs.

Indian fans were disappointed with their team's efforts on Day 2 of the opening Test against New Zealand. They expressed their reactions to the action that unfolded by sharing memes on social media platforms.
