Sourav Ganguly has finally called an end to his long career in Indian cricket, after confirming that he would not playing the next season of the IPL.
The 40 year old had quit International cricket in 2008, but continued to play in the Ranji Trophy for West Bengal and the IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders and Sahara Pune Warriors.
In an interview to The Times of India, Ganguly said, “I had a wonderful time playing in the IPL for five seasons. It gave me a chance to keep playing top-class cricket even after quitting international cricket. But I can’t go on forever, and I have requested the franchise owners not to consider me for IPL 6.”
Ganguly was India’s most successful captain in Tests, with 21 wins in 49 Tests.
In a career spanning well over a decade, he scored 7,212 runs in 113 Tests and 11,363 runs in 311 ODIs. He was also part of the ‘Fab 4′ of the Indian middle order, comprising of Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman.
Tendulkar is now the sole member of the quartet to be still playing International cricket.
