Trichy Grand Cholas is the newest franchise in the Tamil Nadu Premier League. The team will replace the now-defunct Ba11sy Trichy in the tournament and represent the city of Tiruchirappalli in TNPL 2024.
They have appointed Antony Dhas as the captain for this season. He was a part of Ba11sy Trichy last season and was retained by the Grand Cholas. Antony Dhas has taken 38 wickets in 48 matches in TNPL at an average of 28.42.
Ganga Sridhar Raju, who captained Trichy last season, was also retained by the franchise. He is sixth among the leading run-scorers in the TNPL and has scored 1309 runs in 53 games at an average of 27.27.
In the TNPL 2024 auction, the Grand Cholas bought a total of nine players. They spent INR 22 lakhs for all-rounder Sanjay Yadav. Sanjay became the joint-expensive player during the auction.
Sanjay was a part of Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2022. He is the seventh-highest run-scorer in TNPL’s history and has scored 1237 runs in 47 matches at a strike rate of 148.86. With the ball, he has taken 23 wickets at an economy of 7.50. He was the leading run-scorer in TNPL 2022 and amassed 452 runs in nine innings at an average of 90.40.
The Grand Cholas will play their first match against Dindigul Dragons on Saturday, July 6, at the SCF Cricket Ground in Salem in TNPL 2024. A total of 32 matches will be played in this edition of the tournament. Salem, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Dindigul, and Chennai will host these matches. The last two games of TNPL 2024 will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
