The Hundred League returns for its fourth edition, hosted by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). It is all set to start on Tuesday, July 23, and span nearly a month, concluding on Sunday, August 18. The 100-ball tournament consists of eight teams playing a total of 34 matches.
Manchester Originals are among the eight contenders led by Jos Buttler. In the previous season, they ended up as runner-up, losing to the Oval Invincibles by 14 runs. They were ranked second in the table with four wins from eight games and an NRR of +0.521.
Buttler distinguished himself as the top scorer in the tournament with 391 runs, significantly surpassing all other batters, as he was the sole player to exceed the 300-run mark. Philip Salt and Jamie Overton both had a good season, scoring 232 and 202 runs in 10 innings, respectively.
While the batters had a good season, the bowlers struggled to pick up wickets, with Tom Hartley and Joshua Little being the top bowlers for Manchester Originals with eight wickets to their name.
The team has retained 10 players from the previous season and bolstered their roster, including Sikander Raza, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Tom Aspinwall, and Josh Hull.
Farooqi returns following an impressive performance in the recently concluded T20 World Cup, claiming 17 wickets in eight matches. Raza brings valuable all-round capabilities to the squad, highlighted by his standout performance in the T20I series against India, where he scored 90 runs and took six wickets.
Sonny Baker and Matthew Hurst, both emerging talents, have been included in the squad via the wild-card entry process. This draft mechanism enables teams to acquire promising domestic players and enhance team strength.
