The eighth season of the TNPL will start on Friday, July 5. Defending champions Lyca Kovai Kings will play in the first match of the season. They will face the Chepauk Super Gillies at the SCF Cricket Ground in Salem.
The Kings have been part of the TNPL since the first season. They have made it to the playoffs six out of seven times.
The Kings defeated Nellai Royal Kings by 104 runs in the final last season after posting a total of 205 runs for the loss of five wickets. Jhatavedh Subramanyan took four wickets for 21 runs in four overs and won the Player of the Match award.
The Kings were declared the joint winners during the 2022 season of the TNPL along with the Chepauk Super Gillies. The final of the tournament ended in a no-result due to rain.
Shahrukh Khan has been the captain of the Kings for the last three seasons and will again lead the side.
The Lyca Kovai Kings are owned by Lyca Productions, an Indian entertainment company founded in 2014. A subsidiary of Lycamobile, Lyca Productions has been engaged in producing and distributing Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, and Malayalam films in India.
TNPL 2024 will run from Friday, July 5 to Sunday, August 4. A total of 32 matches will be played this season. These matches will be played in Salem, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Dindigul, and Chennai. Only the last two matches of the tournament will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
A total of eight teams are a part of TNPL 2024. Each team will face the other seven teams once in the league stage. The top four teams will make it to the playoffs.
