Lucknow Super Giants star and Indian Test player Devdutt Padikkal has been entrusted with the responsibility of Gulbarga Mystics captaincy for the upcoming Maharaja T20 Trophy 2024 season. The elegant left-handed batter was among the four retentions made by the Mystics team management prior to the auction.
Padikkal will be replacing previous skipper Vijaykumar Vyshak, who led the Gulbarga Mystics into the semifinals of the 2023 edition of the tournament last year. Remarkably, Vyshak was also retained by the franchise despite his demotion from captaincy.
The 27-year-old fast bowler holds a stellar profile in T20s, having picked up 42 wickets from 30 games with an average of 20.88. He recently turned up for the RCB franchise in the IPL 2024 season. Attacking opening batter KV Aneesh and middle-order star Smaran R were the other two retentions made by the franchise.
At the auction on July 25, the Gulbarga Mystics team management shelled out nearly Rs. 7 lakh for Karnataka leg-spinner Praveen Dubey. Aged 31, he holds an impressive T20 economy rate of 7.16 after 24 matches.
Former Hubli Tigers player and star wicketkeeper-batter Luvnith Sisodia was another high-profile addition made by the Mystics. In his short career so far, the attacking left-handed batter has played for the RCB franchise in the IPL.
In a bid to strengthen the Gulbarga Mystics pace department, the team management added fast bowlers Yashovardhan Parantap and Monish Reddy. Gujarat Titans BR Sharath will serve as one of the wicketkeeping options for the Mystics this season. Spin bowling all-rounder Rithesh Bhatkal is set to make his return to the Mystics squad after a gap of two years, considering he last played for them back during the 2022 edition of the Maharaj Trophy T20 tournament.
