The cricket carnival is underway in the Caribbean. The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 began on August 29. This is the 12th edition of the competition and a total of six teams will be in action till October 6.

The Barbados Royals are one of the six teams competing in the CPL 2024. The successful side has lifted the title twice and has been runners-up twice.

The Royals bowed out of the competition in the league stage last year. They have put in an improved performance so far in the CPL 2024, winning three out of four matches. Their last title came in 2019 and they will hope to add one more trophy to their cabinet.

The Kensington Oval is the home ground of the Barbados Royals, who were scheduled to play a total of four home games in the 2024 edition of the Caribbean Premier League. Their first home game was against the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons on Thursday, September 12. Royals won the clash by 10 runs (via DLS method).

The Kensington Oval in Barbados has a rich history. The first Test match at this venue was played between the West Indies and England in 1930. It has a capacity of 28,000 and the two ends have been named after former pacers Malcolm Marshall and Joel Garner.

33 domestic T20s were played at this venue ahead of the CPL 2024. Out of those, teams batting first won 20 times whereas teams chasing won 13 times. The average first innings score is 155.

Kensington Oval, Barbados pitch report

The track at the Kensington Oval in Barbados is bowling-friendly. The bowlers get plenty of movement with the new ball through the air and off the pitch. Batters need to work hard here. Stroke-making isn't easy.

The spinners also get a decent amount of purchase from the surface. The wrist-spinners are expected to make a real impact while bowling at this venue. Anything around 170 will be a good total to defend.
