Brendon McCullum reaches 5,000 runs in Test cricket

Brendon McCullum has reached 5,000 runs in Test cricket in the second test match between India and New Zealand at Wellington on 16th February 2014.

Brendon McCullum has scored 4,909 runs from 83 Tests before this Test match and so he came into this test 91 runs short of the landmark. He was dismissed for 8 runs in the first innings. Thus he need 83 more runs to get to the 5000-run mark, which he did and he is still unbeaten on 114 at stumps on day 3 of the second test.

He is also the fourth New Zealand player to reach the 5,000 runs in test cricket after Stephen Fleming (7172), Martin Crowe (5444) and John Wright (5334).

The New Zealand skipper Bendon McCullum was dropped twice in the second innings. Firstly by Virat Kohli at short mid-on and then Ishant Sharma on his own bowling.
