IPL: 5 players who are capable of hitting 6 sixes in an over in the IPL

Rishabh Pant

Indian Premier League has turned into a batsmen's game over the years. The tournament which is played in the 2 months of the Indian summer has raised the bar of the T20 cricket being played around the globe.

Without any doubt, power-hitters are the impact players in the T20 cricket and they are the biggest crowd pullers particularly in the IPL. It's the names like AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle because of whom people throng to the stadiums. And this is one of the biggest reasons that power-hitters are being paid handsomely in the IPL.

Hitting 6 sixes in 6 consecutive balls is a feat that hasn't been achieved in the IPL so far. But, with the kind of cricket being played these days, it won't be surprising if a player makes it 6 in a row.

Here are the 5 top contenders who are capable of hitting 6 sixes in a row in the IPL:

#5 Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant, the Delhi boy is one of the hardest hitters of the ball of the present generation. Pant is capable of hitting even the best of the deliveries out of the park. He was the first player retained by the Delhi Daredevils this year and has proved the decision to be rightful.

He has got a wide range of shots in his bag and executes the right one at the right moment. He does not fear to go big against even the best of the bowlers, one of the examples being him hitting 26 runs off an over of Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the ongoing season. He hit Kumar for 2 fours and 3 sixes in a row.

Pant has been consistent this year and has scored 582 runs at a strike rate of 179.62 and an average of 52.90. He is placed 3rd on the list of the highest run scorers in the season and has hit the highest number of boundaries in the tournament so far.

He slammed a century off just 32 deliveries against Himachal Pradesh in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy held earlier this year which is the second fastest in T20 cricket. With such hard-hitting capabilities, he is definitely capable of hitting 6 sixes in a row.

#4 Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan, the Bihar born batsman's inclusion in the list may come as a surprise to many. The wicketkeeper-batsman has quickly risen above the ranks in domestic cricket. He first came to limelight in the 2017 season of the IPL where he hit 277 runs in 11 matches at a strike rate of 134.46 and impressed everyone with his cameos.

On the back of a successful Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy season, he was bought by Mumbai Indians for a whopping Rs. 6.2 crore in the IPL auction this season. The team believed in the young talent and he has proved to be a vital member of the squad.

In the ongoing season so far he has scored 270 runs in 13 matches at a strike rate of 157.89. He likes to deal in sixes rather than fours and his style of playing is a delight to be watched by a cricket fan. In the match against KKR, he scored 62 runs off just 21 deliveries that included 6 sixes.

With such hard-hitting capabilities, it won't be surprising if he hits 6 sixes in a row in the IPL.

#3 Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya, the younger of the Pandya brothers has quickly shot to fame and is on the way to making it big in Internationals. Pandya was bought by Mumbai Indians in IPL 2015 and made most of the opportunities he got in that season. Although he was not effective with the ball in his debut season, he came to the limelight mainly due to his powerful hitting.

Pandya was soon inducted into the Indian team and has been a regular in the team in all the three formats. He can often be seen hitting long sixes against spinners in the internationals. Although he finds it tough to go big against fast bowlers, he hit 4 sixes and a four off Ashok Dinda in an over in the last season.

He has hit three sixes in a row multiple times in internationals. Adding three more and making it six in a row is definitely that we can expect to see soon.

#2 Andre Russell

Andre Russell

Andre Russell, the West Indies all-rounder is one of the most valuable players in the world when it comes to T20 cricket. The West Indian has been out of internationals for close to 2 years now but continues to shine in T20 tournaments around the world.

Russell was retained by the Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the IPL and has proved his worth in the ongoing season. His overall strike rate of 178.96 is the highest among any batsman in the IPL.

In the ongoing season so far, his strike rate is 192.59 and he has hit 26 sixes which is double of the number of fours he has hit. Russell who has been rightfully nicknamed 'Russell-Muscle' for his brutal hitting must be eyeing to make it six in a row anytime soon.

#1 AB de Villiers

Ab de Villiers

AB de Villiers does not need any introduction when it comes to T20 cricket. No doubt he is one of the hardest hitters of the ball in the world. The South African is one of the most dangerous batsmen in the world and can possibly hit even the best of the deliveries for huge sixes.

de Villiers has always been known for his unorthodox batting style and is by far the most feared batsman in the world. He holds the record for the fastest 50, 100 and 150 in ODI cricket. The inventor of tons of cricket shots leaves cricket fans awestruck every time he gets going.

In the IPL he has hit 186 sixes and is placed 2nd on the list of highest six hitters in the league. His overall strike rate of 150.92 is the highest among the batsmen with more than 3000 runs in the league.

In the ongoing season, his strike has climbed to 177.91 and bowlers are having a hard time bowling to the batting maestro. AB de Villiers may hammer 6 out of 6 bowls to a bowler on his day and the day may not be far away.
