After the stupendous success of the first two two seasons of SA20, the stage has been set for the third season of the tournament. The third season of SA20 will commence on January 9, 2025, and the auctions for the same were held on October 1, 2024, in Cape Town. Both the previous editions of SA20 have been won by the Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

During the said auction, a total of 13 players were sold and the South African opener Reeza Henricks was the most expensive signing for SA20 2025.

Here is a look at the five most expensive signings of SA20 2025 auction.


#1 Reeza Hendricks - R4.3 million

`The South African opener was the most expensive signing for SA20 2025. He was sold for a whooping sum of R4.3 million to the MI Cape Town.

In the previous two seasons of SA20, the top order batted played for the Joburg Super Kings but did not taste much success. In 19 innings, he scored 411 runs at an average of 24.17 and an ordinary strike rate of 109.60.

Hendricks has been a regular member of the South African T20I team and has tasted success at the top of the order at the international level. He had an impressive 2023 in T20Is and scored 330 runs in eight innings at an average of 41.25 and strike rate of 160.19. His overall strike rate in 72 T20I innings is 130.01.

The 35 year old Hendricks is an experienced batter at the top of the order and his presence and experience will be vital for the MI Cape Town in the upcoming SA20 season.


#2 Richard Gleeson - R2.3 million

Richard Gleeson made his T20I debut for England in 2022 against India and picked up the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant in his first two overs. Since then, he has played five more T20Is and has picked up a total of nine wickets in his six match T20I career.

The pacer played for the Durban's Super Giants in SA20 2024. He picked up five wickets in three matches at an economy rate of 8.42.

Gleeson has the ability to pick up wickets with the new ball and is an experienced campaigner in the shortest format. The 36 year old was picked up by two times champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape for a sum of R2.3 million for SA20 2025.

Gleeson has played 102 T20s and has picked up 115 wickets. He will be a welcome addition to the Sunrisers Eastern Cape and will look to make his performances count on the big stage.


#3 Evin Lewis - R1.5million

Lewis has tasted stupendous success for the West Indies and also in various T20 leagues around the world in the shortest format.

In 52 T20I innings for the West Indies, Lewis has an astounding strike rate of almost 152. Overall, he has played 237 T20s and has a strike rate of almost 144.

The Pretoria Capitals have acquired the West Indian opener for R1.5 million for SA20 2025. He is a welcome addition to the top order of the Pretoria Capitals, which already comprises of Will Jacks, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Rilee Rossouw.

Lewis is an experienced campaigner in the shortest format and will look to make his mark in the SA20 2025 in his first season in the said tournament.


#4 Marques Ackerman - R80000

Ackerman, a middle order batter who has played a solitary game for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in SA20, was acquired by the Pretoria Capitals for the SA20 2025 season.

The middle-order batter has played 56 T20s and in 49 innings, has a strike rate of 125.03. He is regarded highly in the domestic circuit and will look to have to consistent run for the Pretoria Capitals in the upcoming SA20 season.


#5 Shamar Joseph - R425000

The West Indies pacer announced his arrival on the international scene earlier this year in a Test match by bowling a match winning spell against Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane. He has picked up 22 wickets in six Test matches and his stocks are rising by the day with every outing.

He will be playing his maiden season in the SA20 2025 and has been acquired by the Durban's Super Giants. He will join the pace trio of Chris Woakes, Naveen-ul-Haq and Wiaan Mulder for the upcoming SA20 season.

Joseph has the ability to bowl at high speeds and is a wicket-taking bowler in the shortest format. In 15 T20s played to date, the pacer has picked up 16 wickets at an economy rate of 9.05.
