Bowlers picking up five-wicket hauls in one-day internationals can be equated to batters scoring hundreds. By picking up five scalps, a bowler is practically dismissing half the opposition. And if the wickets are claimed at a quick pace, the batting side can be put under intense pressure.

Some of the best bowlers in world cricket have multiple five-wicket hauls in one-day cricket. Sri Lanka's Lasith Malinga ended his ODI career with eight five-fers, while Aussie pace bowling legend Glenn McGrath picked up seven. Among current bowlers, New Zealand's left-arm pacer Trent Boult has six five-wicket hauls, while India's Mohammed Shami has five.

The above players, though, don't make it to the list of bowlers with the most five-wicket hauls in one-day cricket. Here's a look at the famed group of bowlers who feature in the 'top five' club.

#5 Shahid Afridi (9)

Former Pakistan captain and all-rounder Shahid Afridi claimed nine five-wicket hauls in his one-day career. He played 398 matches and picked up 395 wickets at an average of 34.51 and an economy rate of 4.62.

Afridi's best of 7-12 came against West Indies in Providence in the first ODI in July 2013. He claimed seven wickets in nine overs, three of which were maidens. Courtesy of his brilliance, West Indies were bowled out for 98 in 41 overs, chasing 225.

Afridi had a sensational all-round game, slamming 76 off 55, clobbering six fours and five sixes.

The former Aussie fast bowler's best ODI analysis of 5-22 was registered against South Africa in Melbourne (Docklands) in January 2006.

The Proteas were set to chase 246, but Lee's five-fer held them to 186. Incredibly, four of his five-fers were registered against India - 5-27 (Adelaide, 2000), 5-27 (Brisbane 2008), 5-38 (Kuala Lumpur, 2006) and 5-58 (Sydney, 2008).

Australian left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc also has nine five-wicket hauls in one-day cricket.

Amazingly, he has needed only 121 matches to get there and has a chance to add to his impressive tally, as he's still active. Starc has claimed 236 wickets at an average of 22.96 and an economy of 5.21.

The Aussie speedster's best of 6-28 came against New Zealand in Auckland in the 2015 World Cup. The incredible effort almost pulled off a win for Australia in the low-scoring thriller.

Despite Starc's heroics, the Kiwis sneaked home by one wicket in a chase of 152. The 34-year-old also picked up 6-43 against India in Melbourne in January 2015. Australia won the game by four wickets, chasing down 268.
